Coffee Crusades

Dot, since last year, has been working tirelessly on her spontaneity. This is partly due to me, as a new friend, found her need to constantly plan every event in her life, whilst admirable, rather boring. The results of her efforts have been rather remarkable and I am finding her increasing spur-of-the- moment plans continuously surpassing my own.

So on Tuesday afternoon she decided that we should go out for coffee. Since I am supposed to be always for impulsive decisions, I could hardly say no and destroy ‘my image’. After ‘googling’ various coffee shops in Pretoria and finding many of them close at 5pm (Pretoria proving once again to be a farm city), Dot managed to find a quaint coffee shop in Waterkloof Heights Shopping Centre called BICCCS.
The journey there was an adventure on its own, as we on numerous occasions questioned whether Dot’s Garmin was navigating us to the correct location. It decided to find the most convoluted and confusing road to get us there, but nevertheless we did arrive in one piece. The Waterkloof area in Pretoria is like a hidden paradise, that is covered with wonderful forested greenery.

The coffee shop is an Italian one that serves homemade ice-cream (well here it would be termed coffee shop made ice-cream), croissants, Panini’s and wonderful coffee. The atmosphere was cosy and comfortable and made for an excellent location for an afternoon coffee. So while catching up Dot mentioned her plan to explore the coffee shops in Pretoria. And while it is not good for the pocket, I thought it would be a brilliant opportunity to become coffee connoisseurs and blog about our experiences (thank God for freedom of speech in this country).

So here is to the first blog on our coffee crusade... and the review for BICCCS cappuccino :
• Good head of foam, light and fluffy with a hint of cinnamon sprinkling
• Flavour – rich, smooth and almost creamy
• Cup size – average, could have been bigger since the cappuccino was sooo good
• Ambiance – chilled, quiet, relaxing, with the sound of Italian music
• Overall score : 4 /5 – will definitely go there again.
So don’t forget to stay tuned to another episode of Coffee Crusades.

  2. Great blog guys - I will def pass it on.

    What a coincidence!
I went to BICCCS in Cape Town over the weekend :)
A friend from Pretoria insisted we go there since the one in Pretoria was one of her favourite places. So, good choice dudes.

Anyway if I may add to this coffee crusade, the service and coffee was excellent at the branch in Cape Quarter as well.
P.s please try the ice - cream!!!!!

Yes it definitely was a good choice for the first venture, it set the bar high!

We planning to make a follow-up trip to especially do so, the ice-cream looked amazing.

  4. And....that proves that when going to a new place, not yet explored get a second opinion from google maps...

Fantastic descriptive blog about Waterkloof..when are you going to take me there? The coffee...who better than italians to make a capuccino ??? I cant wait to go there and test my theory on intracoffee shop coffee flavour variations. Btw how were the watrons : were they friendly ??? Offer good service with a smile?

Now i wish i was NOT at work.

We need to sort out this early closing phenomenon in the capital city.

  5. Wonderful post: You are well on your way to becoming a true coffee connoisseur! Try Pure in Colbyn/Queenswood next. I have heard they have the best cappuccino in Pretoria.

  6. Thanks Zakkiya. Really, that's an awesome suggestion. We have strangely been struggling to find places that close after 5pm. We will definitely add Pure to the list.
